Mortal Kombat to film in Australia this year; James Wan producing

A reboot of “Mortal Kombat” is being brought to life, with South Australia the spot they will be filming later in the year. Simon McQuoid is set to make his directorial debut, and James Wan will be producing.

The good news for the Australian economy is the number of jobs the production will create, with SA Premier Steven Marshall noting the film will inject $70 million+ into the economy, as well as creating over 580 jobs as well as 1,500 roles as extras on the film.

McQuoid and Wan have been attached to this reboot for a number of years, but with production now set in stone, things will likely begin moving! No news on cast has been noted, though rumour was that Joel Edgerton was attached to the project.

Pre-production is set to begin this month.

“I’m really happy and excited to be bringing another show back to Australia with Mortal Kombat, especially after having such a great experience filming Aquaman,” said Wan in a statement. “Now we get to experience South Australia with its scenic locations and a wealth of artistic talent to work with. It will be perfectly suited for this fantasy-action project.”
