Will Tom Hardy wear the ‘Gimp Mask’ in Dark Knight Rises?

When it was announced that Tom Hardy would be playing the character of Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises”, ‘head scratching’ suddenly became a trending topic on Twitter. After all, what we know of the Bane character is that he’s a monstrously-sized wrestler type who gets about a Gimp-like mask; how would such a character even fit into Christopher Nolan‘s “Batman” world?

The Daily Blam says Hardy (“Inception”) was on Alan Carr’s Show in the UK and briefly touched on how he and Nolan will be handling the character in the 2012 tentpole.

Hardy was first of all asked whether he’s going to have to put on Bane’s ‘Gimp Mask’, to which he replied : “Well, only if I feel like it. No. Again Chris Nolan will revisit that territory entirely. I wouldn’t go by that at all. Plus, that’s a lot of weight to put on and I’ve gotta start shooting in May so I’m gonna go pack up to about 13 – 14 stone [198 lbs]. I’m 12 [168 lbs] and a bit now so I’ve got 3 months to do that.”

I think we all assumed that the Bane of “Dark Knight Rises” would not be a port over from Joel Schumacher’s “Batman & Robin” but still, nice to be reassured.
