The trades reported earlier today that Arnold Schwarzenegger is headed to TV. The former Governor plans to announce the series – set to be “international” show (I take that to mean it’s set right around the world – a’la “Alias”) – at Cannes in two weeks time. Now, I could totally be wrong, but might Schwarzenegger be involved in ABC’s “True Lies”, the series based on the popular 1995 film starring the big guy and directed by Jim Cameron? Tom Arnold did say a couple of days back that he and Schwarzenegger have read a “True Lies” sequel script (Arnold also said Cameron would only produce, not direct) and while prime time television does seem an odd choice for Schwarzenegger to make his comeback in (granted, he may only have a small, recurring role in it), all evidence does seem to point to this being the soon-to-announced Schwarzenegger project, no? Strange for Arnold to refer to the project as “True Lies 2” if it is the TV show though.
At the same time, it could be something totally different…. maybe a game show, in which the major prize is a trip round the world each night?

Tom Arnold’s been touting a “True Lies 2” for years – in fact, the day after that “McHale’s Navy” movie of his did a back-breaking somersault at the U.S box office. Thing is, nobody but Tom seems to know anything about it – and that includes director James Cameron, who claims the project was dead years ago, and star Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has mentioned near every single potential sequel but it.
Still, Tom continues to spread the not so reliable word that “True Lies 2” is in the cards.
Speaking to MovieWeb, Tom says both he and Schwarzenegger have read the script for the film.
“I have read a great True Lies 2 script, and I hope we are able to do it. Knock on wood. Arnold Schwarzenegger is excited. I am excited….We have both read the script. There is a script that James Cameron and a guy named Jeff Eastin, who created the TV show White Collar, wrote. It is really great. Jim can’t direct it. But he can produce it. We hope it gets done. We have a few fun things we want to do. I am supposed to remain cool about this. For me, it would be a lot of fun to work with the guys again.”
I find it interesting that Cameron would develop both a “True Lies” sequel and a “True Lies” TV series (set up at ABC) at the same time.
A few questions : Are we sure this isn’t the pilot episode of the new TV spin-off that the Arnold’s have read? When was this so-called script written? Are you sure it’s Cameron and Eastin that wrote it and aren’t just the ones ‘reading it’? Are we also sure it’s not just some fanboy spec that’s been uploaded to a newsgroup? And finally, if this is indeed as true as Tom says it is… can Jamie Lee Curtis get back on the exercise bike and work on those tight legs of hers again!? Please!
I really hope this is true – I love “True Lies”! – and that Tom Arnold has simply received an email like this, stemming his belief his dream gig is on the way :
