Melissa McCarthy as Tinker Bell!?

What a load of Pixie Dust!

In ‘you know it’s time to give up faith in Hollywood’ news, Melissa McCarthy has teamed with “Night at the Museum” helmer Shawn Levy to play Tinker Bell on the big screen.

While many will welcome the chance to see McCarthy play a different character to the one she’s played in her last five movies, the idea of her springing about in a short emerald skirt doesn’t spur excitement. Couple that with the fact that the film will combine the dual annoyance of the overexposed “Tammy” actress and one of the most notorious point-and-shoot filmmakers in Hollywood and, well, you’ve got a 90 minute commercial for Nurofen.

The only thing, as I see it, going for the project is Nicholas Stoller; the “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” helmer is on screenplay duties. But then, he also wrote one of the most disappointing family films in recent history too, this year’s “Muppets Most Wanted”.

Now is this Tinker Bell project the same thing that Elizabeth Banks was once developing for herself? If not, I guess she’ll give up on that – disappointing, considering the idea of Effie Trinket flying about would seem a more attractive deal.

What next!? Larry the Cable Guy in a “Boy Who Could Fly” remake?
