The bad news? Top Gun : Maverick and Mission : Impossible 7 have been delayed

The good outweighs the bad, yet still, this hurts like a bat to the back.

We were only a few months away from Paramount’s heavily-delayed “Top Gun” sequel. Now, and not surprisingly considering theaters aren’t tipped to be opening at full capacity until late summer at the earliest, the studio has opted to push “Maverick” from July 2 to November 19.

As a result, fellow Tom Cruise movie “Mission : Impossible 7” movies from November 19 and into May 27, 2022.  “Mission : Impossible 8” will now release July 7, 2023 from its previous Nov. 4, 2022 date.

Paramount has also made release dare switches on a few others :

  • Snake Eyes – July 23, 2021 (was October 22)
  • Dungeons & Dragons – March 3, 2023 (was an early 2022 release)
  • Untitled “Star Trek”-   June 9, 2023 (new)
  • Jackass – October 22, 2021 (was September 2021)
  • Untitled Bee Gees film – November 4, 2022 (new)
  • “The Shrinking of Treehorn” -November 10, 2023 (new)
  • Ryan Reynolds/John Krasinski film – November 17, 2023 (new)

Still, the “Top Gun” and “Mission” move will likely pay off for Paramount, and Cruise, with box-office expected to significantly recover by Christmas. And if this sequel thing starts to work for Cruise, don’t be surprised if the “Cocktail” sequel idea that’s been doing the rounds, and another “Edge of Tomorrow” start to gain momentum.

A whole lotta Superman on the table at WB

TV series with Timberlake as Chuck Barris? Yup, this could work!
