Varsity Blues series kicks off at CMT!

In what could make for a nice programming block with their recent acquisition “Nashville”, CMT has announced they’re bringing ’90s football dramedy “Varisty Blues” to the small screen.

The 1999 coming-of-age movie starred James Van Der Beek (then a bit of a ‘thing’, thanks to “Dawson’s Creek” being the number one teen drama on the telly at the time) and Jon Voight as a young footballer and his super-ambitious, borderline-psycho coach. Paul Walker and Scott Caan played players on the team, with Ali Larter a creamy groupie.

The series, says Deadline, comes to CMT from Paramount TV (who just set up “Jack Ryan” with Amazon) and the film’s writer W. Peter Iliff, who is back on screenplay duties.
