What’s this mysterious Star Trek coming June 9, 2023?

Chris Pine as Captain Kirk

As reported just moments ago, Paramount has scheduled an untitled, mystery-clad “Star Trek” flick for June 9, 2023. .

So, what is it!?

Hard to know, the studio has been pretty indecisive about what they’re doing with “Trek”, at least on the big screen. Since the lukewarm reception to “Star Trek Beyond” in 2016, Paramount decided not to rush plans to bring the Enterprise back to the 7-foot screen, and have spent a large part of the last decade scouting for the most interesting idea.

They’ve been pitched :

A Quentin Tarantino-written “Trek” : An R-rated “Trek”, described at one stage as “Pulp Fiction in Space”, that would include the cast from J.J Abrams’ crop of films.

A Noah Hawley-directed “Trek 4” – Bad Robot tapped the “Fargo” creator to write and direct a new installment in the Kelvin series at one stage.

Hemsworth/Pine starring “Trek 4” – The hottest of the ideas, at least based on online reception at the time, saw Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk teaming up with his late father, George Kirk, played by Chris Hemsworth. Apparently it was too pricey a project to do.

A Kalinda Vazquez-written “Trek” film –  Set up with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot productions, this one’s been shrouded in secrecy. Wonder if it’s a complete reboot?

TrekMovie.com reached out to Paramount who wouldn’t let slip any details on the project but did say J.J Abrams was producing. Probably not surprising, considering the “Star Wars” alum got the engines firing on the Enterprise again with his reboot.

The UNTITLED STAR TREK film is a top secret project that we’re developing with J.J. Abrams producing.

Doesn’t help much.

Still, good to see “Trek” back on the calendar!

TV series with Timberlake as Chuck Barris? Yup, this could work!
